We were Malone fellows under the auspices of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations [in Washington] and our educational institutions. Joe and I traded "war stories" about our adventures traveling with students and teachers. Joe was dedicated to the belief that travel and cultural interaction promote understanding. How fortuitous that his final trip was with a group of teachers and students.
