Mostly I miss the little boy who I assumed would outlive me. Every memory I have of Ben brings a smile to my face. He certainly was special and we all knew it from the beginning. I remember him as a toddler hugging his Mom so tightly around her neck while his Uncles teased him about something. And I remember him a wee bit older than that trapsing through the woods and trying to keep up with the older cousins. He had a walking stick that was bigger than he was. But that stick came in handy for him as he swatted the brush away from his face and hoisted himself up a hill. He was adorable and ADORED. He was the youngest for many years and as any parent knows....the youngest has a very special place in a family. He was their youngest but not a bit spoiled. Ben grew and developed characteristics we recognized while he was growing up. His self imposed and quiet discipline kept him on level ground as he kept up with every adventure, misadventure, or daring endeavor his brothers or cousins would get into. And who would have thought that he would challenge himself to go beyond what anyone could have guessed. He became a Ranger!
